Introduction

Stress is a normal part of life, but stress that lasts for a long time can cause changes in behaviour as well as depression and mental illness.

We all know what it's like to feel stressed, and that can be different things to different people, but we're not all good at taking steps to prevent, reduce or manage the stress in our lives. More than half a million people are currently suffering from work-related stress, depression or anxiety. In 2016/17, this accounted for 40% of all work-related ill-health cases.

Can a little bit of stress be a good thing? It's something we hear quite often, but is it true? To answer this, we need to look further into what stress is.
